Walking into a church for the first time — or the first time in a long time — takes courage. You don't know where to go, what to expect, or whether you'll feel welcome. Those feelings are completely normal.

We want to take the mystery out of it. Here's an honest, friendly guide to what your first Sunday at Trinity Christian Church in Avoca, PA will look like.

Before You Arrive

You don't need to dress up. Come as you are. You'll see people in everything from jeans and a t-shirt to their Sunday best. What matters is that you're here, not what you're wearing.

You don't need to bring anything. No Bible required (though you're welcome to bring yours). No offering expected. No prior knowledge of Christianity necessary.

You're welcome regardless of where you are spiritually. Whether you're a lifelong believer, someone who grew up in church and drifted away, someone who's never set foot in a church, or someone with serious doubts — you are welcome here. We mean that.

When You Arrive

Our Sunday morning service begins at 10:30 AM. We recommend arriving a few minutes early so you have time to find a seat and get settled.

When you walk in, you'll be greeted by one of our welcome team members. They'll be happy to answer any questions, point you toward the restrooms, and help you find a seat. If you have children, they can also direct you to our children's ministry area.

Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building. If the lot is full, street parking is available nearby.

The Service

Our Sunday service typically runs about 75–90 minutes and includes:

Worship through music. We sing a mix of contemporary worship songs and traditional hymns. You're welcome to sing along, stand, or simply listen — whatever feels comfortable. There's no pressure.

Prayer. We pray together as a congregation — for our community, for needs within the church family, and for the world around us.

The Word. Our pastor preaches from the Bible, typically working through a book of Scripture over several weeks. The messages are practical and accessible — you don't need a theology degree to follow along.

Communion. On the first Sunday of each month, we observe communion together. If you're a follower of Jesus, you're welcome to participate. If you're not sure where you stand spiritually, you're welcome to observe.

The offering. We pass an offering basket during the service. As a first-time guest, please don't feel any obligation to give. The offering is for our church family — not for visitors.

After the Service

After the service, we encourage you to stay for a few minutes. There's usually coffee and light refreshments, and it's a great opportunity to meet some of our congregation.

If you'd like to speak with our pastor or have questions about the church, faith, or anything else, he's always available after the service. Just look for him near the front of the sanctuary.

Children and Families

We love families at Trinity. Children are welcome in the main service, and we also offer children's ministry for kids during the sermon portion of the service. Our children's ministry team will take great care of your kids — and you can pick them up immediately after the service.

A Word from Our Pastor

We know that visiting a new church can feel like a big step. We don't take it lightly that you're considering spending your Sunday morning with us.

Our prayer is that you would encounter the living God when you walk through our doors — not just a friendly community (though we hope to be that too), but the presence of the One who made you and loves you.

You belong here. We can't wait to meet you.
